Resolutions and Reflections

Many New Year resolutions don’t survive January, let alone into February.

At the turn of the year I decided to use social media less and use our website more. I’m currently not using any social media for the whole of February. Jan stopped using it altogether a long time ago.

Whilst in this contemplative month we reflected on 2025.

After months of agonising through the winter of 2024/25 we decided to call it a day on our Italian adventure. It was time to return to our homeland.

Before the big move cousin Garry came over all the way from New Zealand for a few weeks to help us prepare. It’s possible we had a drink or two whilst he was there.

We put Casa Angeletti up for sale: https://www.intermedcasali.com/en/excellently-renovated-country-house.html

Some viewers wanted a swimming pool so we managed to get planning permission for one. Then Telecom Italia installed noisey cooling equipment in the bell tower next door. This, understandably, put off all the potential buyers. It took a lot of campaigning and talking to lneighbours, lawyers and politicians to get it sorted. Our Christmas present was a message from the Vice Mayor confirming the bell tower was silent once again. We really hope we will sell it this year. Until we do we’ll use the place as a holiday home.

We’ve also put our London apartment on the market: https://www.hurford-salvi-carr.co.uk/properties/21007791/sales

We should sell it this summer, releasing funds for us to buy the land/house to knock down for our E House self build project.

So where did we move to?

We’ve been scouting counties around London for years. Having lived near the sea in Le Marche we wanted to be close to a sandy beach to walk the dogs but able to get up to London. During 2024 we spent some time in Tenterden in Kent and really like it.

Finding somewhere to rent with two Greyhounds proved a challenge but we found a small cottage in the village of Beckley in East Sussex. We’re 20 minutes from Tenterden, 25 from Camber Sands which we love and 40 from Ashford International where we can be in St. Pancras station in 39 minutes. We’re in the High Weald National Landscape which is the UK’s most wooded landscape.

The dogs love it. Phoebe in particular is a different dog. So much happier with all the varied walks and plays with us like she never did before. This makes us happy.

Until we sell one of our properties we’re exploring the area. We’re doing this by going for walks in nearby villages and woods then checking out the pub.
